There are two main branches of the Lakin family in the United States today; the southern branch and the northern branch. It is likely that these two branches descend from a common ancestor, but that connection, to my knowledge, has yet to be made.
The southern branch, whose ancestors arrived in Baltimore around 1670, is being well researched and documented by descendants of those pioneers.
These pages detail the ancestry and history of the northern branch of the Lakins, whose ancestors came to New England around 1644, and about whom comparatively little has previously been available online.
